Personnel Profile

Alex Stanco, Managing Director
Completed B.Sc in 1970, with majors in Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. Member of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers and American Society for Photobiology, inventor cited on two patents. Alex founded the Lastek Group of Companies in June 1988, and was previously Chief Executive of the Quentron Group of Companies. A prime force in the laser research market and high technology industry since 1970, Alex continues to lead the development of the Lastek Group as a leading marketer and custom manufacturer of photonics based research instruments and systems.

Jonathan Bowen, Physicist:
Sales & Marketing: Motion control, photonics, optics, tables and components
Jon is responsible for products from Melles Griot, Aerotech, Discovery Semiconductor, Oriel and more. His portfolio includes nanopositioning equipment, fibre-optic components, optical tables, detectors and optics. Call Jon to discuss your precision motion or fibre-optics application.

Simon Miles, Physicist:
Sales & Marketing: Laser Systems
Industry experience began with Quentron in 1985 and includes several years with Spectra-Physics Lasers in Melbourne. Joined Lastek in 2000, and responsible for sales and marketing of laser systems, optical instruments and components.

Stuart Rumble, Ph.D., Spectroscopist:
Sales and Service Spectrometers, Cameras, Detection systems
Based in Melbourne, Stuart joined Lastek in 1999.He brings a wealth of experience in the sales and service of spectroscopic systems to Lastek. Formerly with Rofin, Stuart is primarily reponsible for the Jobin-Yvon range of Fluorescence, UV and Raman Spectroscopy systems.

Tony Asciak, Senior Service Engineer
Specialist in Ion lasers, CW High Power diode-pumped 532nm lasers, Pulsed Nd:YAG lasers, OPO's, Ultrafast systems, Amplifiers, OPA's and DC power supplies. Tony manufactured copper and gold vapour lasers at Quentron from 1984 to 1988 and CW Nd:YAG lasers and HV power supplies at Laserex from 1988 to 1989. He joined VAST Technologies Pty Ltd, a member of the Lastek Group of Companies, specialising in the manufacture of DC power supplies and industrial diode laser products, in 1990. Tony is trained in the support of Spectra Physics, Lexel, Melles Griot and Omnichrome ion lasers and Oriel lamp systems.

Ray Simonovic, Service Engineer
Ray Simonovic is one of the most experienced laser service engineers in Australasia. He was the senior service engineer at Quentron between 1979 and 1987, responsible for service of Spectra-Physics scientific and medical laser systems. In 1994 Ray designed a laser software and hardware interface and started a lightshow company called Razerlaser. Ray joined Lastek Laboratories in 1997 to assist with the production and QA of Lastek's linear CCD camera products. Ray also services many lasers as well as analogue and digital electronic systems.

Mark Aizengendler, Staff Physicist: R & D
Completed PhD in 1992, Tartu University, Estonia; Research specialty spectral hole burning in crystals and laser spectroscopy. Has over 20 original publications in this field and is the inventor cited on one US patent. Joined Lastek in 1993 and heads the development of spectrometer based systems for laboratory and field spectro radiometry, as well as spectroscopic acquisition and analysis software for laboratory and field use.

The lumen is the luminous flux emitted into a solid angle of 1 steradian from a source which has an intensity of 1 candela. In other words, 1 candela = 1 lumen/steradian.
The lumen is a weighted value of watts. The luminous flux of a source is calculated by integrating the product of the spectral flux (power per unit wavlength band) and the CIE V-lambda curve. The integrated value, or area under the curve represents the total lumens from this source.
