Creating Community
In The Face Of Difference

(A four-day residential event)

There may be no greater challenge to us as human beings than learning to live creatively and constructively with our differences.

The Challenge:
Will diversity divide us? Or will it be the special ingredient that gives us our competitive edge

We Face This Challenge
with our increasingly diverse work force when mergers and acquisitions bring together organizations with differing cultures when neighborhoods, cities and nations attempt to create harmony out of the diversity of their citizens

Can we find the levers for creating community -- in our organizations and elsewhere in the world -- in which all of us feel full membership in the whole, and in which our differences are recognized, valued and used in the service of the business of the whole?

Methods:
You will participate in an intense societal simulation which will enable you to experience clearly and dramatically the dilemmas and possibilities of creating community in the face of difference. This activity highlights the key role dominance plays in organizational and societal life, and on the special challenges faced by the "Dominants" and the "Others".We will engage in a variety of exercises and conversations to deepen our understanding and ability to work with dominance, difference and the process of creating community. In the final phase of the program we will construct a road map for creating robust systems. We will develop action plans for bringing community into our organizations and institutions.

What Participants Say About Their Creating Community Experiences:
"Content, presentation, facilitation and materials were uniformly excellent. All of the presenters are marvelous facilitators, highly skilled, and motivated to do this work. My reaction was extremely positive."

"A transformative experience. Safe, flexible, respectful."
