Laser
Science, Inc. introduced the µ-TEA CO2 laser in response
to customer demand for a compact, low cost, pulsed IR source for mass
spectrometry. We combined our
experience in producing large specialized CO2 laser systems
for government projects with that of being the prime OEM supplier of
nitrogen lasers to the manufacturers of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometers
and produced this new, self-contained pulsed CO2 laser. The
laser is offered at 9.3, 9.6, 10.3, or 10.6 µm.

Performance
The
µ-TEA CO2 laser emits pulses of 100 nsec in duration
with a pulse energy of 15 mJ. Peak power is 75 kW. The pulse repetition
rate can be varied from less than one pulse per second up to 10
Hz. The output waveform is shown below.

Turnkey Operation
The
µ-TEA is air-cooled and incorporates a sealed plasma cartridge. No hookups
for flowing gas or coolant are required. No alignment is necessary as
the resonator mirrors are mounted on the plasma cartridge and aligned
in the factory. The laser needs no warm up period before use. These
qualities make the µ-TEA CO2 laser ideal for OEM applications
where it is incorporated into an instrument and for
field studies.
Modular
Design
The
µ-TEA CO2 laser features a field replaceable plasma cartridge.
The polymer encapsulated cartridge module contains the energy storage
capacitors, the spark gap switching element, the plasma tube, the electrodes,
the preionizers, and the factory aligned resonator mirrors. By changing
the plasma cartridge, all the components that are subject to deterioration
with usage are replaced. The laser performs like a new laser at a fraction
of the cost.
Long
Life
The
µ-TEA CO2 laser has a warranted lifetime of greater than
5 million shots or one year, whichever occurs first.
