Personnel Profile

Chris Budleigh, Managing Director

I have worked with LOT since 1995. I am a chartered accountant by birth and trained in London with Deloittes many, many years ago. I learned about logistics with VSO in Zambia, where I spent two years managing an agricultural marketing organisation covering the Copperbelt province. I have also worked with a number of UK companies including Unichem and Price Waterhouse.
I have a degree in Industrial Ecomonics from Nottingham University and have just completed an MBA with the Open University, part of which comprised a thesis on the UK optical components market, which has been fascinating.
I'm married with two young daughters. I am a passionate cyclist, a keen amateur historian (particularly Ancient Greece) and through work have a growing interest in making things happen in high-tech SME's. I'll be delighted to talk to anyone with similar interests.

John Green, Sales Director

John Green joined L.O.T. - Oriel Ltd. in 1982 and is Sales Director for L.O.T.-Oriel. He has many years experience in the field of spectroscopic and analytical instrumentation, and is responsible for the Oriel Instruments product range including light sources, monochromators and detection systems and the spectro-radiometry range of products from GER. John is also the technical contact for LuminousOptics-Hoffman products, JA Woollam's ellipsometers and KLA Tencor's stylus profilers.

Dr. Shayz Ikram, Group Sales Manager, thermal imaging, laser digitisation, chemiluminescence

Dr Shayz Ikram joined L.O.T. in 1995. He has a doctorate in Laser Spectroscopy from Queens University, Belfast and is the imaging and spectroscopy specialist within the organisation. His main areas of interest are in investigation of the numerous uses of thermal imaging, especially remote surveillance and non-destructive testing. Shayz has extensive knowledge of related instrumentation in both research and industrial based applications. He is a keen squash player and enjoys travelling. For further information on L.O.T. - Oriel's range of Imaging, Spectroscopy and Laser Digitisation instrumentation contact Shayz at:

Dr Marie Anne Schneeweiss, Technical Product Consultant

Marie Anne Schneeweiss joined us in December 2000 as the Technical Product consultant responsible for the AFM range from Molecular Imaging, WITec's Scanning Nearfield Optical Microscopes (SNOM) and Confocal Raman Microscope, ADE/DMS' range of magnetometers and the Nano-R™ from Pacific Nanotechnology. Marie Anne has many years experience with Nanotechnology. She obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Ulm in Professor Kolb's group and recently completed her post doctoral research at the Weizmann Institute, Israel.

Heath Young, Technical Support Manager

Heath joined the company in April 1999 as the Technical Support Manager for L.O.T. - Oriel UK. He is responsible for all after sales technical support, including instrumentation, preventative maintenance servicing and troubleshooting.
He has twelve years experience in a technical support and field service role with a number of scientific instrumentation companies, such as Beckman Coulter. Heath has an HND in electronic and mechanical engineering from the Brighton College of Technology. In his spare time, Heath enjoys squash and is a keen off-road mountain-biker.

Roslyn Rivers, Technical Product Consultant - optical and analytical instruments

Roslyn joined us at the beginning of July 2001 and will cover the product ranges of Andover (Optical Filters) and Thermo Oriel.
A multidisciplinary scientist, Roslyn studied marine microbiology at Plymouth University and has an MSc in surface science from Liverpool University. Roslyn is an avid supporter of Welsh rugby, enjoys playing pool and keeping fit.

The lumen is the luminous flux emitted into a solid angle of 1 steradian from a source which has an intensity of 1 candela. In other words, 1 candela = 1 lumen/steradian.
The lumen is a weighted value of watts. The luminous flux of a source is calculated by integrating the product of the spectral flux (power per unit wavlength band) and the CIE V-lambda curve. The integrated value, or area under the curve represents the total lumens from this source.
