Phlebotomy/EKG TechAs the need for cross-trained healthcare professionals increases, NTI has created the Phlebotomy and EKG Technician program. Through our phlebotomy training, we place emphasis on the safe practice of collecting adequate and correct blood specimens by capillary or venipuncture on adults, children and neonates. The program also includes the correct and accurate obtaining of an EKG tracing and cardiac monitoring. Our EKG technician training program consists of classroom and simulated laboratory settings. Students must demonstrate successful specimen collection with venipunctures, skin punctures, and EKG tracings. This program also prepares graduates for national certification.
Program ObjectiveGraduates of the Phlebotomy and EKG Technician training program are prepared for entry-level positions as phlebotomists and EKG technicians and may perform duties in the hospital, medical office, clinic, or private laboratory. Specific duties may include performing venipuncture by vacutainer, butterfly, and syringe methods, capillary blood collection, electrocardiography with basic interpretation, and infection control.
Job OutlookDue to the nation's massive increase of an aging population, the Health Services industry is experiencing a strong demand for Healthcare Professionals: The health services industry will experience job growth of 25% between now and 2010.* Job opportunities are expected to be excellent, because the number of job openings is expected to continue to exceed the number of job seekers.* *U.S. Department of Labor
