The
Young Artists at Play Program (YAAP)
What
past YAAPers have to say:
"I
loved being surrounded by a group of people who shared my interests. I
like the feeling of trust and open communication..."
"We worked together very well and I've learned from the other students
as I hope they've learned from me."
"I liked working with professional actors, even though they were my teachers,
they didn't act like it."

Let's
Put On A Play!
A full-week program for middle school students who may or may not have
been bitten by the "theatre bug"! We believe there's educational value
in taking a script from the page to the stage IN ONE WEEK! It's about
concentration, discipline, focusing the energy of this age group and finally
the satisfaction of putting on a 45-minute play. We'll rehearse the play,
paint the set, and coordinate the costumes as a team. Join us for a vacation
week you'll never forget!

For younger students, this two-day workshop provides an introduction to
some of the skills adult actors use. We encourage the value of cooperation
and group ensemble as basic life skills that are required tools in the
professional theatre industry. Students will enjoy two days of improvisation,
creative dramatics and musical fun. It's a great way to kick off your
vacation!

Multi-disciplined teachers are by nature creative facilitators and this
one-day workshop will liberate that creative impulse with theatre games,
exercises, and projects designed for use in the classroom. Using professional
actor training techniques and exercises, the class will explore the value
of improvisation, text analysis, and creative play as tools to inspire
learning. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences
with integrating the arts in the classroom and will discover how these
simple tools can actually raise basic skill levels.
YAAP
in the Summer!
June - August
Ages 5-18
Call for a brochure!
During
the summer months, curious and enterprising students, ages 5-18, enroll
in our workshop programs to hone their budding skills or to discover new
ones. The Performance Seminar is a four-week intensive course for students
12-17 that explores specific performance skills including acting, voice,
movement, stage combat and improvisation and culminates in a professionally
produced play in August. The YAAP Ensemble is a four-week program for
the returning or gifted student and emphasizes skill mastery, playwrighting,
and weekly "cabaret" performances which shape the Final Showcase of self-scripted,
dramatic and musical works. For the younger student, week-long programs
introduce age-appropriate material in a summer camp format, including
special Guest Artist workshops and performances. MRT's Master Class Series
provides a full day of instruction in specific disciplines which allow
middle and high school students to create their own program of study.
