Major / Ionian Mode
1-2-3-4-5-6-7 formula

First, let's make sure we have all five connecting patterns down for the major scale. Remember, everything that you learn from here will be built from this. You would use this scale to solo over A Major chord progressions. You Rockers will use the next mode after you learn this one, the Dorian mode to solo over Minor chords. You will also need the major and minor pentatonic. We'll start with the first pattern. After you get that under your fingers, move on to the next, connecting them one at a time.

Now build a Major scale in the Key of B. Follow the same pattern as above. Darken every B note in the pattern just like the A note on the first key (above). Use your fret board chart to help you with the notes.

Now try the key of G Major.
