Lesson
Ten Minutes to Better
Guitar
EX#1
Spend two minutes maximum
on this one!
Start by slowly switching fingers 1 and 4. That's it, you need to do this slowly.
Speed comes with time. Strum the entire chord, making sure you are not touching
the other strings. Just keep switching between each one over and over.
EX#2
Play this over and over,
keeping it as even as you can! You're probably thinking, "This is simple!",
but play it continuously for two minutes. This will help build guidance in your
right hand.
EX#3
Apply strict alternate picking!
This is a simple C major scale, but play it nice and even for two minutes and
you'll see a massive change. Keep clarity 100%, at all times. It doesn't matter
how slow you play it, speed will come with time.
EX#4
This is a coordination drill.
First, plant your 1 and 2 finger down the fret board, then pick the notes, next
drop your 3 and 4 finger down, without lifting your 1 and 2 finger up, and pick
the notes. This is a hrder one to get down, but well worth the effort. Following
is the tab for this drill. Spend two minutes maximum, and go slow!
EX#5
By now, your hands should
be burning. This is not an easy one. You need to use alt. picking, and smoothly
work your way up to playing this 50 times in two minutes. That's about 60 beats
per minute. Remember, start slow and even, the work your speed up gradually.
Do these exercises once
a day for at least 5 days out of the week.
