Responding to the Marketplace for Nearly a Century and a Half.
Today, with fourteen business groups, Worthen Industries has expanded beyond
our traditional footwear and packaging areas.
In
1866, our company began business as Union Paste Company (UPACO) of Boston, Massachusetts.
Over the years, we acquired Southern Adhesives, Empire Adhesives, Monumental Adhesives,
and American Finish. The organizations merged with UPACO to broaden our adhesives
and coatings capabilities and product lines.
In
1936, we expanded into the web coating and converting business with the incorporation
of Farnsworth, Inc., a biased binding manufacturer. Over the next few decades,
NYLCO (New York Laminating Co.), Delco Rubber, Coated Products, Empire Rubber,
Odell-Williams, Avery Coated Fabrics, and Prime Manufacturing joined Worthen Industries,
further expanding our product lines and our ability to provide custom solutions
to our customers.
In the 1980’s, we integrated the UPACO and NYLCO divisions under the
Worthen name and reorganized into business groups to focus our services and technology
on the needs of customers in specific market segments. We found that focusing
a sales, marketing, development, and support team on the needs of a specific industry
enabled us to provide better products and more support. Through quarterly technology
reviews, we share advancements between business groups, allowing each to benefit
from the others’ success.
Today, with fourteen business groups, Worthen Industries has expanded beyond
our traditional footwear and packaging areas, focusing development of adhesives
and coatings for customers in graphic arts, film converting, flexible ducting,
staple and nail, automotive, apparel, building and other industrial markets.
