Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy
Risk Assessment
Initial and periodic periodontal risk assessments are made through utilizing a questionnaire survey and self reported medical history. Risk factors revealed in both medical history and lifestyle answers are reviewed by the licensed dental hygienists and discussed with each client in a completely private and non-judgmental setting.
If it is determined that an individual has any of the risk factors associated with periodontal (gum) disease, in-office counseling or referral to appropriate care providers is given.
The following risk factors may be involved in the periodontal diseases:
- Tobacco use
- Diabetes
- Stress
- Heart Attack/Stroke
- Medications
- Family History/Genetics
- Osteoporosis
- Hormonal influences
- Poor nutrition
