Performance testing is undertaken not only to find bugs in the IT infrastructure, but to eliminate bottlenecks as well as invent a baseline for future performance testing. Within the IT industry, performance testing applies to the testing performed on applications in order to determine how fast a particular aspect of a system performs in a particular work environment. It can also serve to validate and verify other quality attributes of the system like
availability,
application health, reliability, usage etc. For meaningful performance testing, a clearly defined set of expectations is required.
