1963.
Gravesend, N.Y. A neighborhood in Brooklyn where the Italian homes of
Besonhurst meet the housing projects of Coney Island. A flashpoint for
racial upheaval. Music is the one thin thread that runs across the Avenue.
When the a cappella sounds of black gospel, blues, and jazz meet an Italian
world rooted in opera, religious music, and folk tunes, the glorious sound
of doo-wop is born. Joyous, rich, and moving. An a cappella musical. Gritty,
powerful, and inspiring. An infectious fusion of bare-boned music, movement,
and American drama.
