You Will Dream New Dreams. Inspiring personal stories
by parents of children with disabilities. A Sequel will
be a collection of essays by parents similar to You Will Dream
New Dreams. Inspiring personal stories by parents of children
with disabilities published by Kensington Books in the Spring,
2001.
Experienced, “veteran” parents of a child with
a disability and/or special health care need are the most
important source of emotional support and wisdom for new parents
of children with disabilities and/or special health care needs.
This book is intended primarily for parents who have recently
learned that their child has a disability and/or special health
care need—at birth, during early childhood or any time
thereafter. This is a time when most parents will not feel
able to listen to or read large amounts of information. Rather,
it is a time for family and friends to be there, to listen
and assure new parents of their continuing support. That is
why this book will be a book of short essays by experienced
parents, essays that can be read, re-read and shared with
others—one at a time, at any time, and in any order.
What do you wish a friend had told you at that time in your
life? What information do you wish someone had given you?
What type of personal stories do you wish veteran parents
shared with you? Please write this essay in your own way.
Some editing may be done on essays selected for inclusion
in the book. Essay authors will be shown final copy for their
approval.
