Industry Wins Satellite Technician Licensing Exemption in Alabama

The SBCA is pleased to report that on April 21st Alabama Governor Robert Riley signed into law  Senate Bill 171 relating to the regulation of electrical contractors.  The SBCA worked to get language in the bill that exempts the installation, construction or maintenance of direct broadcast satellite services from the requirement that no person shall engage in electrical contracting business or performs work as a master or journeyman election unless the person has received a license from the board or from the county or municipality where the electrical contracting work is being performed.  This exemption has been in place for technicians employed by cable companies, so we are happy to be able to level the playing field for satellite technicians.

Did You Know?

Your voice matters when the industry is fighting unfair taxes or consumer access regulations. The SBCA is looking for companies and individuals around the country who are willing to assist us in addressing state and local legislative issues in your market. This may involve sending a letter, making a call or attending a meeting with legislators or regulatory groups to voice your opposition to proposals that can directly affect your business. Elected officials will listen to their constituents and we have used this approach recently to battle discriminatory taxes and fees on installation and service.  The time commitment is minimal but it in many cases we must act quickly in order to protect your business and the industry as a whole. Whether you are a business owner or individual technician, your voice matters. To get involved click here and enter your information. Thank you.
