Industry Wins Satellite Technician Licensing Exception in Wyoming

Washington, D.C., March 11, 2010 -- The SBCA is pleased to report that on March 9, 2010, Wyoming Governor Freudenthal signed into Law HB 15 which, among other issues regarding electrical safety and licensing, establishes a licensing exception for satellite-TV installations effective July 1, 2010. This win for our industry is the result of over two years’ work on the part of the SBCA and through a significant contribution by DISH Network field operations executives. The cable industry has had this exemption for years and this law provides the same provision for the satellite industry. This exception to the licensing process applies only to technicians doing satellite installations. This does not change the requirement that the company employing the technician be appropriately licensed.

Through this process, the industry has strengthened its relationship with the Electrical Safety Division of the Wyoming State Fire Marshall’s Office and thanks them for their support. The industry continues to support the SBCA certification and training for all technicians across the country.

The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association is the national trade organization representing all segments of the consumer satellite industry. It is committed to creating value added programs to improve the long term growth and sustainability of our member companies while continuing the industry’s leadership in protecting the rights of consumers and technicians to access the best in satellite delivered services.
