Two Members from SBCA Appointed to NFPA Code-Making Panel

Washington, D.C., November 1, 2007 -- The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) announced today that two members from its Electrical Safety Subcommittee were appointed by the National Fire and Protection Association (NFPA) to serve on Code-Making Panel 16 (CMP-16).

The CMP-16 handles special systems in chapters 6, 7, 8, and 9 of the National Electric Code (NEC).  The NEC is the standard for the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment, and is widely adopted by federal, state, and municipal governments.  The NEC is produced by the NFPA.  The primary focus of the NFPA is on research and code and standard development, and instruction on safety from fire, electrical, and other hazards.  Panel members represent major electrical organizations and are considered experts in their fields.

The Electrical Safety Subcommittee works to evaluate and promote safe practices within the satellite industry, and to make these practices the industry standard by outreaching to the NFPA and other interested parties.

George Bish, Subcommittee Member, and Project Manager for Mastec Inc., will serve as the primary panel member, and David Lettkeman, Subcommittee Chairman, and Manager of DNS Field Compliance with Dish Network Service LLC, will serve as the alternate panel member.

The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association is the national trade organization representing all segments of the satellite industry. It is committed to expanding the utilization of satellite technology for the broadcast delivery of video, audio, data, music, voice, interactive, and broadband services.
