SBCA: Commissioner Adelstein to Keynote 2005 Media LawForum

WASHINGTON, DC, Feb. 3, 2005 – The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) today announced that Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Jonathan S. Adelstein will keynote SBCA’s Media LawForum on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.

SBCA’s 2005 Media LawFORUM event will assemble expert panels and discussions with lawmakers, regulators, lobbyists, press, and multi-channel and telecommunications industry executives. The panels will offer a unique perspective and detailed insight into the current regulatory and legislative issues, specifically their impact on telecommunications marketplaces. SBCA’s 2005 Media LawFORUM will also showcase the latest technological advances in the industry through live product demonstrations.

Adelstein was sworn in for a new five-year term at the Commission December 6, 2004. He has served on the five-member commission since December 2002 when he was specially appointed. Adelstein, who is originally from South Dakota, has shown great interest in rural issues facing the FCC and other issues that are of importance to the consumer satellite industry.
 
Before joining the FCC, Adelstein served in the Senate as a professional staff member to the Senate Special Committee on Aging and as a senior legislative advisor to Senator Tom Daschle for 15 years. Before going into government work, Adelstein was a teaching fellow in the History Department at Harvard University and a teaching assistant in the History Department at Stanford University.
