SBCA Announces Partnership with Digital Hollywood Conference Satellite Focused Research, Panels and Education Added to West Coast Agenda

Alexandria, Va., July 22, 2004 – The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) today announced that it will debut its 2004 Competitive Market Analysis at the Digital Hollywood conference (Sept. 27-29) at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif. SBCA will host related panels at a luncheon from noon to 2p.m. (PST) on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004.

“SBCA is thrilled to partner with the Digital Hollywood conference,” said Richard DalBello, president SBCA. “This venue offers SBCA a great opportunity to highlight the satellite industry’s role in ‘transforming the entertainment industry.’”

SBCA’s program will begin with a top-line presentation of findings from SBCA’s 2004 Competitive Market Analysis. The top-line research will be presented by this year’s SBCA Research Working Group chair, Ellen Quest, executive director of research, Starz Encore Group. The Taylor Research and Consulting Group, Inc. is currently conducting the research under the guidance of the SBCA Research Working Group.

The first panel of the day, The 18-34 Demographic: A Fountain of Profits, will focuson the 18-34 demographic. This demographic continues to be heavily sought after by the multi-channel industry and this panel will explore programming behaviors, advertising appeal, and early adoption of new technologies. Satellite executives and top programmers will address what they are doing to acquire these subscribers/viewers and how they intend on ensuring their loyalty.

The second panel, Serving Diverse Markets: Comparing Satellite to the Competition, will highlight multicultural program offerings by satellite service providers. Satellite has long been at the forefront of niche and international program offerings. However, competitors are launching new suites of programming aimed at diverse markets as well. This panel will explore the subscriber trends in the diverse marketplaces and investigate how critical these markets are to future growth.

SBCA will also teach its “Satellite for Beginners: A Primer for New Satellite Professionals” course on Sunday, Sept. 26th. This course is designed to help professionals new to the satellite and multi-channel industries get better acquainted with satellite services. The course includes a comprehensive history of the satellite industry, as well as an overview of satellite hardware, technology, programming, legislative and regulatory issues, satellite consumer market research, and much more.

As an added incentive, SBCA members will receive a $100 discount off the registration price for the Digital Hollywood conference. For more information go to www.digitalhollywood.com or contact SBCA.
