NEWS CORPORATION’S CHASE CAREY TO KEYNOTE 2003 SPRING SkyFORUM
Industry’s Top Financial Symposium to Include Analyst Forecasts,
Panels on Satellite Radio, Broadband, and Updates on DVR Technology and HD Programming

ALEXANDRIA, VA, April 22, 2003 – The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association announced today that Chase Carey, a member of the board of directors and consultant to News Corporation, will be the afternoon keynote speaker at the Spring 2003 SkyFORUM, the satellite services industry’s top financial symposium, to be held on Tuesday, May 20 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.

Carey will address the increasingly competitive landscape in the multichannel television industry and how consumers will benefit as a result of this heightened competition.

Carey was Co-Chief Operating Officer of News Corporation and President and Chief Executive Officer of Sky Global Networks until his resignation in January 2002. He also served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Fox Television Group until 2001.  On April 9, 2003 it was announced that Carey would be President and Chief Executive Officer of Hughes Electronics Corporation after the completion of the acquisition of 34 percent of the company by News Corp.

The bi-annual SkyFORUM, hosted by SBCA and its SkyTRENDS partners, brings together Wall Street’s analyst and investment community with top satellite and multichannel industry executives to discuss topical issues and upcoming trends. The program will include live demonstrations of emerging consumer product and services technologies, keynote addresses, panel discussions, in-depth research presentations, and onstage interviews with industry leaders.

“Chase’s background and familiarity with the international satellite business market will provide an important and timely perspective to this symposium,” said Clay Mowry, president of Arianespace, Inc. and SkyTRENDS chair. “His topical observations will continue SkyFORUM’s tradition of being the satellite industry’s premier event.”

As a senior executive at Fox and News Corporation from 1988, Carey had a key role in the growth and success of News Corporation. His initiatives include the launch and growth of Fox Sports, the expansion of the Fox Television Stations group, the emergence of Fox cable channels, and the building of satellite platforms in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Carey joined Fox in 1988 from Columbia Pictures, where he held senior positions from 1981 to 1987. He is a Trustee of Colgate University and a graduate of Colgate University and Harvard Business School.

“The satellite industry continues its remarkable growth, capturing the interest of consumers and the Street,” said Andrew Wright, president of SBCA. “Chase will help ensure that SkyFORUM will once again bring together industry leaders and newsmakers for a day of candid conversation.”

The May SkyFORUM’s schedule includes:

  • Super Session on DVR and HDTV: “Changing the Face of Television”
    • The DVR Update
    • The HDTV Update
  • Satellite Radio: Tuning Into a National Audience
