KOZLOWSKI RESIGNS AS CHAIR OF SBCA BOARD

ALEXANDRIA, VA, December 21, 2001 -- The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) today announced that Stan Kozlowski, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), has resigned as chairman of the SBCA Board of Directors due to differences with Association policy.  First Vice Chair, Eddy Hartenstein, replaces Mr. Kozlowski as chairman of the SBCA Board of Directors.  Mr. Hartenstein, one of the founders of direct broadcast satellite television, is chairman and CEO of DIRECTV, Inc.

 “Stan is an important leader in the satellite consumer services industry,” said SBCA President, Andy Wright.  “He is a friend who has lead this Association with distinction during a difficult transition period.  He will certainly be missed, but we look forward to continuing to work with Stan in other capacities in the years ahead.”

“Stan is a veteran of the satellite television business who has played a leading role in furthering the vision of the SBCA and its member companies,” said Hartenstein.  “He has done a tremendous job as chairman of the SBCA, working tirelessly to promote the issues germane to the Association and we are thankful for his leadership and dedication.”

Mr. Wright also added that, “The Association and our leadership are pleased that Eddy, who has been a key player in the industry and the Association since the inception of DBS, has stepped in to serve as chairman of the Board.  Eddy’s experience and proven leadership ability will undoubtedly serve the Association well.”

The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association of America (SBCA) is the national trade organization representing all segments of the satellite industry.  It is committed to expanding the utilization of satellite technology for the broadcast delivery of video, data and voice services.  The SBCA is composed of DBS, C-band and other satellite service providers, programmers, equipment manufacturers, distributors, retailers, encryption vendors, and national and regional distribution companies.
