RFID/AutoID

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tags / Inlets from Poly-Flex are flexible circuits that function as a low cost solution by combining a printed or etched antenna on a low cost substrate with a flip chip placed at very high volume. Flexible circuits for the AutoID scanner market provide custom solutions to the scanner market with high reliability and both reduced weight and cost. Examples of Poly-Flex product applications include:

Sample Applications

RFID inlet assembly

RFID Passive Inlet:

  • Low cost Polymer Thick Film (PTF) or Copper antenna on a PET substrate - metallization based on frequency required; other substrates are available (paper, ABS, PVC, etc.)
  • Flip chip attachment assembly placement rates up to 10,000 CPH (components per hour)
  • Reliable attachment attained using either isotropic conductive adhesive with an underfill or anisotropic conductive adhesive
  • Wafer handling service management available, including bumping, thinning, and dicing
  • Read ranges of 2-3 meters achievable
  • Available for 13.56MHz, 900 MHz, 2.45GHz, and 5.62 MHz applications; (other frequencies available upon request)

RFID Active Inlet:

  • Low cost PTF printing for both the antenna and circuit areas
  • Coin cell SMT battery attachment available
  • SMT device placement includes both active devices with pitch of .020" or greater and passive devices with package sizes as small as 0603
  • Multi-layer, double sided boards available
  • Shielding layers can be incorporated into the circuit design
Shielding:

Shielding
  • PTF on PET in either flood or grid print configurations
  • PSA with release liner on backside for ease of installation
  • Choice of Z-axis adhesive or mechanical terminal interconnect

Control Panel Circuit for bar code reader:
  • Multi-layer, double sided circuit board with a switch layer as the top circuit layer - all fabricated on a single substrate
  • Shielding layer incorporated during circuit fabrication
  • LCD with chip on glass assembled to the circuit with Z-axis tape
  • Component placement using Poly-Solder® conductive adhesive
  • Circuit / LCD assembly mounted to a plastic housing for modular installation to the handheld reader
  • Total weight of the assembly including plastics -12 ounces; Ergonomically this is a winning design feature!
