Beginner
Lesson
Important things to know

Here are some basic ways
you can hold your guitar.

Sitting

Standing

Sitting / Standing Note:
the right hand always making contact with the body of the guitar (recommended).
This is a good way to hold your pick for strumming.

If you're going to be soloing
or doing some riffing, you would want to choke up on the pick to gain more control.
There should be almost no pick showing and the skin should somewhat make contact
with the strings.

Here is a good position
for picking.

Note that the fingers are
contacting the body. This will allow your mind to learn the strings and have more
control over picking.

This is a position for palm
muting. This is used with distortion effect.(metal, grunge, rock, blues and so
on). This is done by laying the meat of your right hand at the bridge and applying
a little pressure to control the attack.

This is the correct position
for open chords.

Here’s the dreaded Barre
chord position. Notice the thumb position for this chord (very important).
