The VA Series
Variable Attenuators allow the user to vary the intensity of an
external light source entering an integrating sphere. Variable
attenuators mount onto the port frame or port frame reducer of
an integrating sphere. Labsphere offers two attachments, each
consisting of a slide attenuator positioned between two port frame
adapters. The VA-XXX-M is a manual attenuator. The VA-XXX-SC is
a motorized variable attenuator which is operated through the
VAC-1000 Variable Attenuator
Control and the SC-5500 Integrating Sphere
System Control System.
The
VA-XXX-M Variable Attenuator consists of a manually controlled
slide attenuator. The manual variable attenuators are available
in 1, 2 or 4 inch aperture sizes; the part number designation
XXX denotes aperture size.
For
more predictable and repeatable settings, the VA-XXX-SC features
a motorized slide attenuator. The attenuators may be set to
any of 256 steps allowing for precise control of low levels
of light. The attenuators are available in 1, 2 or 4 inch aperture
sizes. The VA-XXX-SC is operated through the VAC-1000 Variable
Attenuator Control, and the SC-5500 Integrating Sphere System
Control.
The VAC-1000
Variable Attenuator Control is designed specifically to control
the VA-XXX-SC motorized variable attenuators through the SC-5500
Integrating Sphere System Control. The VAC-1000 operates up
to four separate VA-XXX-SC Variable Attenuators simultaneously.
The front panel of the VAC-1000 features four operation indicator
lights to display the actual movement time of the attenuators.
A D-9 pin female connector cable connects the VAC-1000 to
the motor of the variable attenuator and a DA-15 pin female
connector allows for interfacing to the SC-5500 Integrating
Sphere System Control.
The SC-5500
Integrating Sphere System Control can then be connected to
the user's computer for precise control of up to 256 linear
steps of the attenuator's slide diaphragm. This allows the
user to vary the intensity of an external light source entering
an integrating sphere.
