The
Cambodian American League of Lowell,
Inc., was organized and chartered primarily
for the purpose of serving low and moderate
income Southeast Asians in the Greater
Lowell, Massachusetts area, particularly
the residents and businesses in the
Highlands neighborhood. CALL works with
residents to formulate economic and
community development strategies that
respond to the unique needs of the Southeast
Asian community.
GOALS

Promoting
the development of Southeast Asian businesses
and expanding opportunities available
to individuals and/or groups to own,
manage and operate their own business
enterprises.

Assisting
economic development and improving social
welfare in a manner that encourages
and promotes Southeast Asian leadership
and neighborhood community empowerment.

Combating
neighborhood deterioration by promoting
homeownership and increasing affordable
housing opportunities.

Encouraging
and promoting cultural awareness and
preservation among greater Lowell's
Southeast Asian communities.

Developing
and maintaining access by and accountability
to CALL's membership in all its activities
and programs.

Supporting
homeownership, business education and
job creation/training programs that
increase available employment opportunities
and improve access of the Southeast
Asian community to jobs in all sectors
of the economy. In turn, creating self-sufficiency
and asset growth within the Southeast
Asian community.

Developing
a reliable voice and community communication
vehicle within the Southeast Asian community
through quality television programming
and print media.
The
Cambodian American League of Lowell, Inc.
(CALL) enjoyed a very successful year increasing
the circulation of the Bayon Business News
(BBN); expanding the Cambodian Cable News
(CCN) program; expanding the Microenterprise
Training Program; adding a full-time Housing
director to its staff; and sponsoring a
well-attended New Year and Community Award
Ceremony in April 2000.
We now have five (5)
full-time staff members, including the Executive
Director, Microenterprise Director, Media
Director, Housing Director, and Administrative
Assistant/Community Outreach Coordinator
with an annual budget of approximately $300,000.
