Billerica, MA - November 9, 2007 - AST Products, Inc., a world leader in water-based hydrophilic coatings for medical devices, announced today the completion of a licensing agreement with Bothell, Washington-based EKOS Corporation, Inc. (EKOS®), a manufacturer of unique and innovative microcatheters for application in neurovascular anatomy, for the use of its LubriLAST™ lubricous hydrophilic coating.

EKOS® uses LubriLAST™ to coat its product line of microcatheters which is designed for use in neurovascular anatomy to enhance dispersion of fluids, such as contrast agent and thrombolytic drugs. The microcatheter technology has been developed with navigational characteristics similar to the most advanced neuro catheters for use in delivery of diagnostics agents into the brain. The product can also be used in the periphery where it combines the advantages of a precisely positioned end-hole thrombolytic drug delivery and the value of the ultrasound transducer incorporated in the distal tip of the catheter.

And, LubriLAST™ coating provides exceptional lubricity necessary for the EKOS® line of microcatheters to navigate in and out the human body during the Interventional Management of Stroke (IMS) procedure by effectively reducing the coefficient of friction and patient tissue trauma. LubriLAST™ is a water-based biocompatible coating technology that is not only flexible and durable, but also hemocompatible, making it ideal for coating medical devices. LubriLAST™ has enjoyed a successful track record and is currently in use on a variety of FDA approved medical devices. Because it is a water-based coating, there are no concerns about any residual solvents on a device, allowing device manufacturers and health care professionals alike to feel safe and confident in its use.

Commenting on the agreement, AST's President, Mr. Carl Cummings said, "We have been working together with EKOS® on this project since 2004 and we are extremely excited that we finally have made the commitment decision for our partnership. The EKOS® line of microcatheters is a state-of-the-art neuro-catheter and we take great pride in knowing that our coating can add value to it. Furthermore, we believe that our relationship with EKOS® reflects the high quality of our line of medical coatings."

Billerica, MA - October 18, 2007 - AST Products, Inc. has partnered with Europlasma NV for the exclusive distribution of its PJ plasma surface treatment system in Europe. This partnership will bring AST to the forefront in the contact lens market. AST recently joined Europlasma at the 35th EFCLIN (European Federation of the Contact Lens Industry) Congress and Exhibition in Malaga, Spain to demonstrate the capability of its PJ plasma surface treatment system. Next month on Nov 8-10, Europlasma will be joining AST at the 46th Annual CLMA (Contact Lens Manufacturers Association) Meeting & Exposition in Santa Fe/Albuquerque, New Mexico.

AST's PJ plasma surface treatment system is a compact, full-featured benchtop plasma surface modification system. Using a Windows-based platform, the PJ is designed for both laboratory and production uses. This system is ideal for surface treatment and cleaning or removing of organic contaminants from various substrates such as metals, ceramics, glass, and silicon, including contact lenses. The entire system fits conveniently in one cabinet.

Over the past few years, numerous contact lens manufacturers across US, Canada and Asia have chosen AST's benchtop plasma system, the PJ, to treat their gas permeable (GP) lenses. Plasma treatment has successfully proved to append additional hydrophilicity to the contact lens, which thus led to better lens wearing comfort. Several material manufacturers such as Bausch & Lomb, Paragon Vision, Menicon and Contamac have all endorsed the use of the PJ from AST. In fact, all of these companies have gained FDA approval to plasma-treat lenses with the PJ. Interest in the PJ continues to grow with manufacturers in Europe now investigating the application of plasma to aid in their manufacturing process.

Commenting on the agreement, AST Plasma Science Group's Sales Manager, Rob Layman said, "We believe that by partnering with an established company like Europlasma will greatly improve our level of service and support to the European market."
