McLaughlin Mayflower Has Always Been Green!

We’re not just talking about the color of our trailers… We’re talking about our entire operation. At McLaughlin Mayflower, we keep it green in many ways.

Let’s start with the fact that every carton and container we use is made with recycled paper. On average, our boxes are made with 90% post-consumer recycled materials.

We also source the production of our packing materials from suppliers who participate in sustainable forestry initiative programs; and our marketing materials are printed on FSC-certified papers.

Customers keep some of the boxes used in their moves, but we encourage them to recycle those they don’t, or, better yet, return them to us for a credit. We are then happy to offer used cartons at a discount to any customers who request them.

For our corporate customers, we take the additional step of offering the use of our McCrates, sturdy plastic containers that get returned to us at the completion of their move. McCrates can be used over and over again, with no negative impact on the waste stream or environment.

Of course, we re-use or recycle virtually all the packing materials that come through our facilities, and may recycle more than 20 tons of paper and plastic every year.

Our latest green innovation can be experienced the first time you meet with us… We are the first company in the U.S. to provide “plain paper” estimates. Our moving consultants employ a unique plain paper printer to provide your on-the-spot estimate. It used easily-recycled plain paper and non-toxic bio-degradable inks. No more toxic thermal paper!

Perhaps our biggest green initiative, though, is on the road. Using the latest fleet scheduling and satellite tracking software, we are able to move our trucks much more efficiently. We know which one is closest to the next move, rarely run a trailer more than a 100 miles without a load and, when appropriate, are able to combine commercial loads for even greater efficiencies.

As a result, we saved more than 200,000 gallons of fuel last year. That’s more than 4 million pounds of CO2 that McLaughlin trucks did not add to the atmosphere!
