Westford, MA: Mack Technologies' printed circuit board assembly
(PCA) volume for the second quarter (FY2000) has increased by 42
percent over the first quarter. And fourth quarter projections more
than triple first quarter performance, according to Steve Barbera,
vice president of technical operations.
The
upsurge is the result of new business, significant new product
introduction (NPI) prototyping, and investments in capacity, according
to Barbera. Today, we are building about 200 different types of
moderate to high complexity boards, with 90 percent of our production
runs at a lot size less than 100," he explains. Mack Tech
is currently assembling boards up to 20" x 16" with
20 layers and over 4000 components. "Low to medium volume,
high complexity boards are our niche," emphasizes Barbera.
Mack
Tech established its printed circuit board operation in 1996 to
diversify beyond the computer industry. "We started as a
computer hardware manufacturer with a core competency in complete
system level assembly," explains President Ron Jellison.
"That is and will always be our primary mission. But by vertically
integrating into printed circuit assembly, we have not only enhanced
our offerings to the computer industry, but have positioned ourselves
to serve other markets as well." Today, Mack Tech builds
products for the computer, networking/telecommunications and instrumentation
markets.
