- Vary your practice topics
- Try to make steady progress in all areas of your study.
- Learn new material
- Too much repetition will make you loose your passion, Even though it is one
of the most important parts of learning, Try to make it a little different all
the time.
- Review - You’ll
need to review to retain what you have learned and also most important how
to use it.
- Spontaneous ideas
- This will be where you’ll start to use your own ideas and feed off of them.
There nothing wrong with this and that’s what playing guitar is all about.
- Have fun - Remember
this is one of the reasons why you picked up the guitar. If practice ever gets
to be a pain in the neck, change something ASAP.
Practice Space
- You should have a very
good music stand.
- Make sure you have a nice
comfortable chair.
- Good lighting.
- Paper, pencil and eraser
- Something to keep time
with (metronome, drum machine)
- Tape deck
- An electric tuner (saves
a ton of time)
- Try to find a place that’s
as quiet as can be.
All this info will help
inspire you to practice. All of these things are not mandatory but will help in
your success.
One thing to remember is
that you should play what makes you happy, not some ones idea of what they feel
you should play. This goes for guitar instructors, if you ever doubt your interest
or find it hard to practice what they are teaching, find another guitar teacher
ASAP.
A great guitar instructors
number one job is to keep you interested by teaching what you want
to learn.
