At Learn Guitar we don’t
believe in beating our students over the head with massive scale study. Why? Boring!!!!!
We do teach scales though, every student needs some form of scale work. After
all scales are what music is built off of.
Many guitar instruction
consist of a nasty regimen of scale work that gets you no where but to
the point of loosing your mind. Even worse than that you’ll start dreading the
thought of practice or even playing guitar! Learn guitar has many ways to trick
you into learning scales, seeing how we all need to learn scales. Why?
5 reasons why scale study
is very important.
- First of all they train
your ears to recognize pitch change and key tones'font-size: 14.0pt;'>. This
is very important to any one taking guitar lessons. This will help you tune your
guitar or pick things up faster in a band situation or help you figure songs out
on your own.
- Help you to build a
strong base for theory. Without even knowing it, you’ll be building a great
theory base for future chord work and song structure.
- Improves pick technique
fast. This will show you were you might be getting a little sloppy.
- This will help you improvise
when called on it. Trust me on this one, by building melodies in your head
that you can call upon.
- When you sit down to
transcribe (learn songs) on your own it will be a walk in the park. Or when
you need to build a chord or solo you won’t even think about it.
With the correct way of
studying guitar scales, it will be fun and interesting for you. Every guitar lesson
should include some form of scale work, whether we trick you into it or
not!!!!
