Oh boy! Every one loves learning new chords. This is one of the most asked questions so we will give you some tips that you can apply right now to improve the way you switch chords, and learn chords.

Most of you are most likely ready to put your guitar through the wall. But wait don’t give up there is a simple drill you can use to learn your new chords fast. Follow this

  • Grab it
  • Pick It
  • Make a fist
  1. Grab the chord the best and most comfortable way you can. Make sure your fingers match the chord diagram that you are following. If you’re not sure take it slow and line a finger at a time up to the guitars neck.
  2. Pick each note of the chord one at a time. Listen to hear if sounds good to you. If not se sure that.

    A.   You are pressing near the center of the fret or close to the fret, not on the fret or too far behind the fret.

    B.   You are pushing down on the string hard enough to sound the note. But remember don’t kill your fingers the strings should not be that hard to push down. Acoustics tend to be a little harder.

    C.   All or some of your fingers are not deadening the string or other strings. Make the proper adjustments.

If you have to, arch your fingers and remember to squeeze with the thumb. Shuffle and move your fingers around until you find the sweet spot. Once you get a clean sound.

  3. Drop the chord off the neck and make a fist with your left hand. This is so you can’t cheat and you have to rebuild the chord from scratch. When you do it all over again and again. Do this about 8 times then take a 30-second break and shake your hand out.

Another thing to do is use a racket ball, and squeeze it to build strength and endurance in your fretting hand.

This all takes time and there are no short cuts. You need to burn them into memory. Soon you’ll be amazed on how fast you can pick a new chord.
