  1. Take a short break from practicing or even playing guitar. This will clear your mind, and it’s been known to break bad habits. I only recommend taking a short brake like 5 to 7 days from playing your guitar. In that time you should start craving your six-string torture devise.
  2. Read about your Guitar Heroes, This always helped me. When you find out that every great guitar player struggled with learning how to play guitar you’ll feel much better.
  3. Buy new music you want to play. Even if its way out of reach, it will inspire you to keep up the work. Whether its sheet music or a new CD it doesn’t make a difference.
  4. Change you guitar strings. By changing your strings and giving it a good cleaning, if you can have it set up for, that will be all the better, it will sometimes strike a nerve in you, and give you the taste back for practicing.
  5. Watch your favorite guitar player live or on TV. This is a great way to get inspired, and will give you knew ideas on what you want to learn next.
  6. Change your practice routine. By altering how and what you practice will make big difference in how you practice. Remember you play like you practice. Try changing the room around or the area that you practice in around.
  7. Think about where you were a week, month, six months or a year ago. Try playing a piece that you knew last year you wouldn’t even dream about playing. I’ll bet you’ll be surprised at how you play.
  8. Join a band if possible. This will give you the edge that you need to keep working, and the outlet to release the build up from practice.
  9. Don’t practice Just play. Try not practicing for a week, but instead just play or jam on things that are fun. You can get lost for hours just doing this. Try messing with a new effect or some different guitar sounds.
  10. Enroll for guitar lessons. This will get you going fast. A good guitar mentor will be able to spot a slump before it even happens, just talking to you or asking a few questions. They’ll be able to pull you out of it in no time, after all it’s their job.
