EGS Gauging INTRODUCES ROLL QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OPTION TO COMPLEMENT SYSTEM 21 PRODUCT

Billerica, MA (May 7, 2002)…EGS Gauging, Inc., a provider of specialty web product measurement and control solutions, introduces Roll Quality Management System (RQMS) as an option to their SYSTEM 21 product line to complement their quality information products. The RQMS application suite allows SYSTEM 21 customers to access, via the use of an intuitive browser, all relevant roll / run quality data. By integrating roll genealogy and disposition management, the system enables customers to make educated decisions regarding quality and production.

The RQMS option brings SYSTEM 21 customers one step beyond traditional information access that provides trend graphs and spreadsheet reports. By incorporating RQMS, detailed roll quality data such as profiles, charts, process trends, and electronic logs are available for further real-time or historical analysis and reporting. Scan by scan profile data is captured to generate detailed statistics and quality maps that precisely document the uniformity of each production slit roll, roll, or production run.

Because RQMS utilizes Microsoft SQL Server as its database engine, customers can be assured of compatibility with their existing database systems. Data is easily exported to third-party applications such as MS Excel and other advanced analysis packages used to retrieve and analyze quality information, without the manual preparation often associated with such programs.

Companies can assure product quality and avoid rejects resulting from quality approval practices that are based on random samples. They can also avoid the unintentional shipment of marginal quality product due to the shortcomings of visible inspections.

A key feature of EGS Gaugings’ RQMS storage technology is that an entire roll map is stored as a single entity, resulting in profile retrieval and visualization that is 10 times faster than competitive products. RQMS stores high-resolution scan-by-scan product profile data received directly from the OPC server. and can be easily viewed by “casual” users throughout the customer’s facility.

EGS Gauging’s RQMS option offers a variety of powerful standard production reports. Users can customize formats as needed and can view the reports through standard web browsers. Reports can also be generated in XML to conform to emerging standards for electronic data interchange. Automatic roll numbering that conforms to TAPPI and NARI numbering schemes and automatic labeling are available. Both are also user definable if desired.

The user-friendly Navigator accesses all information related to roll quality & genealogy including profiles, quality maps, and process tag trends.. The profile archive enables 2D- and 3D- summary graphs to be accessed as a single entity from the Navigator.. The depth of the profile archive is independently configured. As a result, customers may elect to maintain high-resolution profile data from a relatively short period (i.e. 1-2 years), while keeping summary profile data and statistics on-line for longer time periods until a back up can be generated.

Query tools allow the user to view data on any roll based on criteria such as date, grade/products machine, roll number, disposition and customer order. This enables customers to analyze the variation within a roll relative to other roll members of a product family. By reviewing detailed profile history graphics, users can minimize scrap during grade/product changes. Unwanted long-term trends can be identified by tracking current transition performance vs. historical trends.

The SYSTEM 21 also provides expansive connectivity capabilities for PLC’s, drives, controllers, third-party devices, and Windows™ applications, offering complete line-wide automation and factory-wide integration. System 21 was designed for companies producing coated and converted products, film & sheet products, as well as a wide variety of continuous web applications.
