EGS Gauging
INTRODUCES WINDOWS 2000 RELEASE OF THEIR SYSTEM
21 PRODUCT AT CHINAPLAS 2002
New
Operating System Offers Multi-Lingual Operator
Interface Including Chinese Language Characters
Billerica,
MA (May 20, 2002)…EGS Gauging Inc., a provider of specialty product
measurement and control solutions, will be introducing
the latest release of their SYSTEM 21 product
with support of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional?
at Chinaplas ’02 in Shanghai, China, June
25-29 (Booth 2A60, Hall 2). Additionally, the
latest Mark III Industrial Scanner and MicroBeam?
sensor will be on display.
The
SYSTEM 21 is designed for companies producing
coated and converted products, film & sheet
products, and is used in a wide variety of continuous
web applications. By implementing the Windows
2000 Professional operating system, the SYSTEM
21 now offers an unparalleled multi-lingual operator
interface that is robust, easy to use and easily
managed. The interface supports the Chinese language
as well as several other languages & dialects
from an on-screen menu that allows users to swap
between several different languages in seconds.
The
SYSTEM 21 provides a powerful, yet user-friendly,
arsenal of product measurement and control capability
unmatched in the industry. It is based on a network-distributed
architecture with Windows 2000 Professional and
Wonderware?, the number one selling user-customizable
process control software product in the world.
EGS Gauging’s Mark III Industrial Scanner
is the latest high-performance scanning platform
engineered to provide cross machine scanning measurement
for on-line sensors. The MicroBeam HR™ is
a high resolution, non-nuclear sensor developed
specifically for the thickness measurement of
biaxially-oriented films.
The Windows 2000 operating system combines the
ease of Windows 98 with the manageability, reliability
and security of Windows NT at speeds 30% faster
than Windows 98. Windows 2000 is easier to deploy,
manage and support using an intelligent user interface,
and is designed with modifications to prevent
crashes, provide Windows File Protection, and
the ability of the operating system to “self-heal”.
Because of this, the latest release of EGS Gauging’s
SYSTEM 21 benefits include less downtime and increased
system speed, thereby reducing costs by improved
management and productivity.
The
use of Wonderware’s products provides access
to well over 1000 standard links to devices such
as temperature controllers, drives and Programmable
Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and includes comprehensive
process control, supervisory and data management
systems which allow connectivity to standard Microsoft?
applications such as Excel? and Access?.
EGS Gauging’s
Mark III Industrial Scanner is designed especially
for demanding applications where maximum durability,
cleanliness, and performance are required. An
all-new “unibody” design incorporates
a 3/8” thick heavy tubular steel structure
that provides high stability while isolating internal
scanner components from the environment. The enclosed
unibody design protects the scanning hardware
and electronics from the environment and also
eliminates the potential for contaminates to drop
from the scanner onto the web. The unique design
of the MARK III makes it an ideal solution for
requirements where the hardware is subjected to
dust, high temperature, moisture and fiber, or
where cleanliness is critical.
A
powerful distributed scanner processor is incorporated
within the Mark III scanner frame to provide local
processing for all data acquisition and scanning
functions. An ethernet network connects the scanning
frame and sensor(s) with the Operator’s
Workstation and other 3rd party devices for instantaneous
exchange of product/process data, and control.
Unique
to the marketplace is EGS Gauging’
MicroBeam HR? film sensor. It was developed specifically
for the measurement of biaxially-oriented film
thickness and offers exceptional accuracy and
repeatability on films down to 0.5 microns (0.02
mils). Unlike their competition, EGS Gauging’s
MicroBeam HR? sensor enjoys the benefits of being
non-nuclear. A unique attribute of the Microbeam
HR Sensor is that it actually becomes more accurate
as the film gets thinner. This is accomplished
by using proprietary optical techniques that eliminate
the noise issues associated with conventional
beta-sensor measurement. In fact, tests have shown
the MicroBeam HR? signal-to-noise characteristics
are up to 175 times better than the best competitive
nuclear techniques using Promethium 147 sensors
on 0.89 micron film. This ultimately means faster
and more accurate measurements and thus higher
quality product to the stretch-film processor.
Because
EGS Gauging’s MicroBeam HR? is non-nuclear,
it is not subject to the issues related to nuclear
sensors such as the 2.6 year half life of PM147
techniques and requires no special licensing or
regulation conformance as nuclear gauges.
A
host of SYSTEM 21 products are also available
to companies looking to upgrade their existing
measurement and control technology such as legacy
systems like CIMline or PROFITMASTER. The SYSTEM
21 provides expansive connectivity capabilities
for PLC’s, drives, controllers, third-party
devices, and Windows? applications, offering complete
line-wide automation and factory-wide integration.
