Joseph (Joe) Taylor Brass Arranger and Caption  Head

 

Joseph Taylor served as Band Director and the Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Massachusetts from 1982 to 1992. From 1992 to 2001, he was an Educational Account Executive for the John W. Coffey Music Company.

Returning to Bishop Feehan in 2001, Mr. Taylor was appointed the Director of Performing Arts where he supervises curriculum and teachers in vocal and instrumental music, theatre arts and dance. He is also the director of the marching and concert bands, the BF Big Band, the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo and the newly formed brass ensemble.   He has written curriculum for courses such as Music Theory and Composition, Midi and Music Technology, and Percussion ClassHe has authored the “Standards for Secondary School Music Education” which serves as the model for all secondary schools in the Fall River Diocese.  

Mr. Taylor is an alumnus of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, (BA Music Education), where his trumpet teachers included Jeff Stout, Wes Hensel, Lou Mucci and Ray Kotwicka.  He was a member, the St. Francis Xavier Sancians of Weymouth, MA. and the Rockland (MA) Defenders and the brass caption head for the Boston Crusaders (87-88).  

"Joe" has written over 300 music arrangements and compositions for marching and concert bands, jazz ensemble, orchestra, chorus and drum and bugle corps which have been used by community ensembles and high schools from Maine to Florida.   As a composer, he has written music that has been used for band, percussion,, television, video and other music media.   As a trumpeter, Mr. Taylor has played for the Russ Weisman Big Band, the Ed Mello Swing Band, the Rhode Island Showcase Orchestra and the Roy Scott Big Band.

Mr. Taylor is a member of the Music Educator’s National Conference, the International Association of Jazz Educator’s and the National Catholic Educator’s Association.  He resides in Mansfield, Massachusetts with his wife Helen and his two sons, Christopher and Matthew.
