MIDNIGHT
NETWORKS ANNOUNCES ANVL IPSEC SUITE SUPPORTING STANDARDS FOR INTERNET PROTOCOL
SECURITY ARCHITECTURE
-ANVL IPSec
Suite Ensures Equipment Vendors' Products Comply with IETF Standards-
Wilmington,
Mass., September 14, 1999 - Midnight Networks announces today its ANVL
Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) interoperability suite. ANVL IPSec
is the latest addition to Midnight Networks' Automated Network Validation
Library (ANVL) product. ANVL, the industry-standard automated test
tool for validating protocol interoperability in networking products, validates
protocol implementations and operational robustness of networking devices,
such as high-density remote access servers, backbone routers, end nodes
and Layer 3 switches. ANVL IPSec tests all aspects of IPSec security
protocols, including Authentication Header (AH), Encapsulating Security
Payload (ESP), and Internet Key Exchange (IKE).
Traditionally,
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) offer secure transactions across the Internet
by using tunnels, typically originated by Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol
(PPTP) or Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP). "Midnight Networks currently
offers test suites for PPTP and L2TP," said Richard Goode, Director of
Marketing for Midnight Networks. "Equipment vendors can use ANVL's
IPSec tests to ensure that their products are compliant with the latest
Internet Draft. Midnight Networks is very excited to offer IPSec
to its customers. The success of VPNs in the marketplace, as well
as the phenomenal financial lure of Electronic Commerce has stimulated
the interest in IPSec. Equipment vendors are extremely interested
in making their new and existing products IPSec compliant."
- IPSec Design
Objectives -
IPSec is the
latest Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard protocol.
It is designed to provide interoperable, high-quality, cryptograpically-based
security for IP Version 4 and IP Version 6. The set of security services
offered includes access control, connectionless integrity, data origin
authentication, protection against replays, confidentiality, and limited
traffic flow confidentiality. These services are provided at the
IP layer, offering protection and upper layer protocols.
ANVL IPSec is
based on IETF RFC 2402 Authentication Header (AH) and RFC 2406 Encapsulating
Security Payload (ESP) specifications. ANVL IPSec will be available
for shipment in November 1999. Pricing will begin at $15,000.
