Tyngsboro HISTORY
Tyngsboro
Massachusetts was founded in 1675 by Colonel Jonathan
Tyng, and was incorporated as a town on February
23, 1809. As the town grew, Tyngsboro became known
for its ferries, quarries, and box companies.
Until the late 1960's, Tyngsboro was a vacation
community with a large seasonal population.
Tyngsboro
is rapidly growing, and currently has over 11,000
residents. A new Town Hall, Elementary School,
Police Station, and a progressive capital plan
epitomize the community's desire to provide its
residents many large community services, yet still
maintain all the small New England town charm.
Although
the original spelling of Tyngsboro was "Tyngsborough,"
many of the towns within Massachusetts later adopted
an abbreviated spelling. Both "Tyngsboro" and
"Tyngsborough" are considered to be acceptable,
and are largely a matter of personal preference.
