Spectralon
reflectance material is a perfectly diffuse reflecting material
that is ideal for applications ranging from the UV-VIS to the
NIR-MIR wavelength region. Spectralon is a highly lambertian,
thermoplastic material that can be machined into a wide variety
of shapes to suit any reflectance component requirement. Typical
applications include back-light illuminators, lamp housings, integrating
spheres, laser cavities and calibration targets. Three grades
of Spectralon reflectance material are available for component
fabrication. These include optical-grade, space-grade and laser-grade
Spectralon.
We
welcome inquiries for the development of custom or OEM Spectralon
fabricated components. With our dedicated Spectralon development
laboratory and a fully equipped Spectralon machining facility
we can rapidly handle orders ranging from 1 to 100,000 pieces.

Optical-grade
Spectralon reflectance material is characterized by a high reflectance
and lambertian behavior over the UV-VIS-NIR wavelength region.
The reflectance of Spectralon is >99% over the wavelength
range from 400 to 1500 nm, and >95% over the wavelength range
from 250 to 2500 nm. This wide range of high reflectance allows
for the material to be used from the UV into the NIR region
of the spectrum. The material is ideal for fabrication of components
such as integrating spheres, lamp housings, backlight panels,
line illuminators and panel reflectors.
Optical-grade
Spectralon is hydrophobic and thermally stable to 350°C. It
is chemically inert to all but the most powerful bases such
as sodium amide and organo-sodium of lithium compounds. The
material is durable and maintains consistent reflectance even
under harsh laboratory or field conditions. The use of optical-grade
Spectralon assures the user of highly accurate, reproducible
spectral data when used in the construction of optical components.

Laser-grade
Spectralon, which combines extremely high reflectance with nearly
perfect diffuse scattering is the ideal material for fabricating
laser cavities. Laser-grade Spectralon offers the same physical
properties as optical-grade with a different formulation of resin
that gives enhanced performance when used in laser pump cavities.
The material is slightly lower in reflectance than optical-grade
Spectralon; however, it is much more suitable to prolonged exposure
to high intensity arc lamp radiation. Lambertian properties are
unaffected by change in the materials resin formulation.

Space-grade
Spectralon reflectance material has gained wide acceptance as
a reflecting diffuser material for terrestrial remote sensing
applications for both field and laboratory applications. Space-grade
Spectralon combines high reflectance with an extremely lambertian
reflectance profile, exhibiting reflectance values of >99%
reflectance over the wavelength range from 400 to 1500 nm and
>95% reflectance from 250 to 2500 nm.
The
material is processed in a clean-room environment and packaged
to protect against molecular and particulate contamination.
Each step in the manufacturing and handling process ensures
that the material is of the highest purity and cleanliness,
essential for space applications. Lambertian properties are
unaffected by the reformulation and manufacturing process.

Spectralon
diffusion material consists of thin sections, generally between
0.1 and 1.0 mm, of specially formulated Spectralon designed
to transmit and efficiently scatter incident light. Diffusers
fabricated from Spectralon are particularly useful for broad-band
diffusion of optical radiation, from the UV spectral region
to the NIR spectral region. Spectralon diffusion material is
invaluable in reducing the sensitivity of detectors to beam
alignment and improving the uniformity of light sources.
These
diffusers have a useful range of 200-2500 nm, and are significantly
more diffuse than double-ground quartz.
