DALLAS, Texas / Bevaix, Switzerland - June 17,
1998 - MediaPhonics has announced that its leading edge computer messaging
solution for road warriors - PhoneRider CyberDesk - was given
the prestigious "Best of Show" award at CTI EXPO, Baltimore, USA. This solution,
which consists of the PhoneRider telephony board and CyberDesk application software,
provides advanced messaging services to desktop PCs and also extends all the functionality
into the field for use on regular or mobile phones. For example, road warriors
can not only hear their e-mails but also "reply to author" using a telephone.
The spoken reply is converted into an audio file that is attached to the e-mail
and this is transmitted according to the instructions given by the recipient.
In addition, the PC can automatically forward all calls received at the desktop
to a designated telephone number. If calls are not answered they default to voice
mail.
PhoneRider CyberDesk therefore provides unified messaging
at the desktop (e-mail, voice mail and faxes) and becomes a virtual messaging
assistant when users are on the move. Thus, there is no longer any need to carry
a notebook PC or PDA when the user requirement is for a fully featured messaging
solution. All that is needed is just a phone.
The advanced functionality provided by the MediaPhonics
solution is, as far as the company is aware, still unique and it derives from
the custom-designed PhoneRider CT board. This product, which has also won various
awards, was designed from the chip level up in order to eliminate the limitations
of conventional modems and most importantly, adds a super-set of telephony and
voice processing features.
CyberDesk is MAPI compliant and is integrated with MS-Exchange.
The client (or stand-alone) version of MS-Exchange is located on the desktop running
under Windows 95. When the solution is employed on a network, the MS-Exchange
server will normally run on a Windows NT server with clients on each of the PCs
in the network. The MediaPhonics solution is therefore ideal for both stand-alone
platforms as well as networks of any size. As a stand-alone solution the board
will normally connect ectly to the public network; when in a network configuration
PhoneRider connects to a PBX or key system.
PhoneRider CyberDesk is available today through major
retail outlets, VARS and Interconnect companies at an affordable user cost of
$299.
