"(The)
vision for the metal finishing industry (including PWB) for the new millennium
(is) electric field process control. (In particular) the paradigm...(must shift)
from chemical mediation to electric field mediation. (This shift is already evident
as) we are able to plate through-holes (325 microns) and microvias (50 microns)
by using a waveform sequence (from the same no-additive bath)."
(Dr. E Jennings Taylor, Chief Technical Officer, Faraday
Technology, Inc.) |

The DuraProcess
series of multiple wave sequencing power supplies are new and covered by TecNu
intellectual property. They output a non-periodic wave form by sequencing ramped
start and periodic pulse signals to achieve the desired deposit characteristics.
The DuraProcess combines DC, PP and PPR in a specific wave sequence to optimally
achieve the desired deposit characteristics over complex geometric surfaces or
under difficult to plate conditions.
Pulse wave
sequencing power supplies, by their high degree of internal automation, reduce
capital equipment cost, process time, errors and costs while they increase production
throughput by automatically executing complex processes preprogrammed into it's
job library.
Typical applications
include plating of cathodic surfaces with complex geometry's, plating of materials
sensitive to the chemistry, selective plating and increased automation of the
plating process.

of Multiple Wave Sequence Case Study
|
PROCESS
STEP 1
|
Ramped
Periodic Pulse |
|
|
Purpose:
|
To build
up the surface gradually in order to avoid burning (applicable to plating on thin
films) |
|
PROCESS
STEP 2
|
Periodic
Pulse Reverse |
|
|
Purpose:
|
To plate
micro-profile surfaces such as blind vias on PWB's. This wave form sequence is
designed to fill the smaller complex geometry's requiring less material first,
to avoid interaction. |
|
PROCESS
STEP 3
|
Periodic
Pulse Reverse |
|
|
Purpose:
|
To plate
macro-profile surfaces such as larger plated through holes on PWB's. |
|
PROCESS
STEP 4
|
DC |
|
|
Purpose:
|
This process
step is not required but when applied replaces the matte finish typically associated
with pulse wave forms with semi-bright. |
WAVEFORMS:
Wave sequencing of DC, Ramped DC, Periodic pulse, ramped Periodic Pulse, Periodic
Pulse Reverse and ramped Periodic Pulse
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS: Difficult or complex cathodic
geometries sensitive or difficult to plate applications, and increased process
automation, electroforming, electro machining.
