KeyTek Year 2000 Policy Statement

March 21, 1999

KeyTek and the Year 2000. KeyTek recognizes the importance of providing our customers with products that will continue to function correctly during the Year 2000 and beyond.

Our Products. It is our goal to ensure that our customers can continue to use our Current Products and Discontinued Products (as defined below) during and after the Year 2000. Accordingly, all products sold after the date of this Statement are Year 2000 Compliant. We will provide any necessary upgrades at commercially reasonable rates to make non-compliant Current and Discontinued Products Year 2000 Compliant.

As part of our Year 2000 Program, KeyTek will work with our customers who are using Obsolete Products (defined below) to find appropriate solutions to Year 2000 compliant issues. We will provide our customers with information regarding each product's compliance status, as well as guidance regarding upgrades or alternative solutions, where possible.

Attached to this statement is a Product Compliance List, which states the results of our product evaluations to date. We will continue to update this list as our Year 2000 Program proceeds. The current version of our list will be available at our Web site at www.keytek.com.

Our software. It is important to note that when KeyTek software is identified as being Year 2000 compliant, we are assuming that you are using compliant hardware and operating systems. The compliance of your KeyTek products will be subject to the limitations of your computer hardware and operating systems. We performed our evaluations using compliant hardware and operating systems. Since PCs are subject to very rapid changes in firmware and hardware, it is possible that two models that seem identical will not handle date functions in exactly the same way. Therefore, if your equipment is used in a critical application, we strongly advise you to test the equipment by simulating the millennium date change yourself. Please call our Technical Support Department at (800) 735 9835 for our suggested testing protocol.

Our Stand-Alone Products. Certain of our products can be used either on a stand-alone basis or as part of a system. If we have indicated that a product is compliant on a stand-alone basis, you should not assume that it is necessarily compliant when used as part of a system. In our attached Product Compliance List, we have listed stand-alone products and systems separately. If you are using stand-alone products as part of a system, you should check the compliance status of the entire system.

Our Internal Business Systems. KeyTek is evaluating its internal business systems for Year 2000 compliance. We expect that by the end of 1998 we will have completed any required upgrades or modifications. In addition, KeyTek is contacting its key vendors/suppliers to assess their Year 2000 readiness.

Third Party Hardware and Software. The Year 2000 compliance status of any hardware, software or firmware not manufactured by KeyTek is your responsibility (they were not included in our evaluation) and you should contact the appropriate manufacturer directly. For your convenience, in certain cases, we have specified recommended upgrade paths in our attached Product Compliance List. However, specific details regarding full compliance and future year limits should be addressed directly with the manufacturer.

Customer Commitment. We recognize the importance of this issue to our customers. If you have any additional questions, please contact our Technical Support Department. Also we hope you are taking steps to assure that you too will be ready to do business in the 21st century.

Nothing in this statement is intended to modify the rights and obligations under any agreement or to create any new rights or obligations between KeyTek and our customers. The information available from KeyTek concerning the Year 2000 is provided for the sole purpose of assisting our customers in their planning for the transition to the Year 2000.

Definitions

Year 2000 Compliant. KeyTek has adopted the following definition of Year 2000 compliance as set forth by the British Standards Institution in DISC PD2000-1 A Definition of Year 2000 Conformity Requirements (available on the Internet at http://www.bsi.org.uk/disc/year2000/2000.html), with the qualification that the upper limit for compliance is the year 2035:

Year 2000 conformity shall mean that neither performance nor functionality is affected by dates prior to, during, and after year 2000.

In particular:
Rule 1: No value for current date will cause any interruption in operation.

Rule2: Date based functionality must behave consistently for dates to,during, and after year 2000.

Rule 3: In all interface and data storage, the century in any date must be specified either explicitly or by unambiguous algorithms or inferencing rules.

Rule 4: Year 2000 must be recognized as a leap year.

Current Product. A product still being manufactured and fully supported by KeyTek.

Discontinued Product. A product supported by the KeyTek Support Organization but no longer in manufacture.

Obsolete Product. A product no longer manufactured or fully supported by KeyTek.

Notes:

  1. KeyTek's products do not contain any date-based functionality. Dates are only data items, primarily in reports. Y2K compliance with Rule 1 in the BSI definition (interruption in operation) depends on the compliance of the operating system and PC platform. These platforms are often customer-provided equipment. Current PCs shipped by KeyTek are Y2K-compliant.
  2. There are no software components for this product.
  3. All accessories, options, and add-on modules for this product are not affected by the Y2K problem. These products do not use the date or have embedded systems that are date dependent.

(4) This product will not be tested for Y2K compliance, it has been replace by KeyEMI.
