INTERSTATE
RECEIVES TOP HONORS FOR MANCHESTER AIRPORT
Company Recognized For Outstanding Achievement
North Billerica, MA - Interstate Electrical
Services was recognized with top honors from Associated
Builders and Contractors (ABC) and Independent Electrical
Contractors (IEC). This $1.5 million dollar project
won first place from the Massachusetts and New Hampshire
Chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors.
In addition, this project was awarded the prestigious
honor of a National Excellence In Electrical Construction
Award from the Independent Electrical Contractors.
This 2-month project consisted of the installation
of six Explosive Detection Systems, as well as new baggage
handling/conveyor systems. Interstate responded to post
9-11 security needs and completed the renovations by
the deadline set by the U.S. Transportation Security
Administration (TSA). As a result, Manchester International
Airport was the first airport nationwide to comply with
the regulations.
Six state-of-the-art EDS machines were installed within
the terminal’s six airline baggage check/ticketing
areas. These were installed in accordance with the “out
of sight” objectives of the Manchester Airport
Authority, and in consideration of the program, safety
and schedule needs of the TSA, Harvey Construction (general
contractor), six commercial airlines, and G&T Conveyor
(baggage conveyor systems manufacturers).
“Without Interstate’s involvement, this
project would not have gone off as well as it did, and
we would not have met the deadline,” stated Rob
King, Project Manager for Manchester Airport with Harvey
Construction. “They were the key subcontractor
for us on the job. I can’t speak highly enough
of Interstate Electrical.”
Because of Interstate’s “full service”
organization depth, Interstate was capable of supplying
all the necessary estimating, engineering, supervisory,
and labor personnel. This quick strike need for talent
came during a peak demand time in the construction industry,
yet Interstate was able marshal the manpower because
of its in-house depth.
Interstate pressed three groups of the company into
service. The Network Systems Group handled the complex
communications cabling, the Construction Group provided
electrical construction and wiring installations, and
the Special Projects Group provided specialized design
and oversight.
