INTERSTATE ELECTRICAL WINS ABC
NH/VT EXCELLENCE IN CONSTRUCTION AWARD FOR HOLMAN STADIUM
PROJECT
The Associated Builders and Contractors of Vermont
and New Hampshire recently announced Interstate Electrical
Services Corp. as a Merit Award winner in the association’s
prestigious Excellence in Construction Awards for restoration
and upgrades at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH.
The winning project involved a $4.5 million restoration
to this historic baseball stadium, including a new concourse,
luxury suites, offices, and new electrical, lighting,
life safety, security, and technology upgrades. The
renovation was completed to enlarge the stadium capacity
and make safety and technology improvements for the
fans, players, and employees of the popular Nashua Pride
baseball team.
These renovations and stadium upgrades were completed
on a fast track schedule prior to Opening Day of the
2002 season. Working on a design-build project delivery
method, BreadLoaf Corporation of Middlebury, Vermont
was the project architect and general contractor; Interstate
Electrical Services Corp of New Hampshire performed
electrical engineering design and construction. The
City of Nashua and the Nashua Pride are the project
owners.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by our industry
peers with this award,” said Gary Sobolewski,
Vice President of Interstate Electrical Services Corp.
“We were given quite a rare opportunity on the
Holman Stadium project to preserve the historic integrity
of the old stadium while bringing its infrastructure
up to 21st century standards. The award is a nice recognition
of the team’s accomplishment.”
Built in 1937, the stadium is rich in history. Holman
Stadium hosted the first racially integrated baseball
team in the US when Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe
played there for Branch Rickey’s Nashua Dodgers
minor league team in 1946. Today, the fast-growing popularity
of regional baseball teams such as the Pride led the
City and the team to expand and upgrade the stadium
after the 2001 season. The addition of fan amenities
and luxury seating will help generate the revenue necessary
to keep the team in Nashua.
The award is one of four Excellence in Construction
awards awarded by ABC in 2002 to Interstate Electrical
Services Corporation. The firm also won a national award
and two regional awards from the ABC Chapters Massachusetts
and Rhode Island.
