Content Protocols

IP protocols deliver your message to the right computer, but they don't translate them.

Instead, the contents of IP messages are further defined by content protocols:

• Email uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

• File transfers use File Transfer Protocols (FTP)

• Web transfers use HyperText Transfer Protocols (HTTP)

Both the sending and receiving computers must also understand the content protocols SMTP, HTTP, FTP, and so forth to understand the content.
